Family

The Underhills

Dalene says that being a mom is both the best and most challenging job she's ever had.

Before she and her husband Warren had their first child (Lucas, now 3), they prepared as much as any two people could. Still, nothing could have prepared them for the amount of love they felt,  as well as the highs and lows they experienced.

Since they welcomed the newest member of their family Brooke 7 months ago, there seem to be even fewer hours in the day but Dalene says being able to watch her kids develop their own little personalities make the long days and nights worth it. She also admits that she loves being able to “twin” with her kids by dressing them all in matching outfits, and hopes they don't hold it against her in the future! ;)

She's been told on several occasions that “all parents screw up their kids in some way, try not to feel guilty about every decision or mistake”. But admits her "mom guilt" has doubled since having her second baby, and says that she just tries to be a good person, so that one day they'll grow up to be good people as well.  At the end of the day, like all parents, she says they're doing the best they can and just want their kids to feel loved and to be happy.

I for one can say, that the love they share is so evident, and I now have the photos that prove it :)

Aleks, Mark, Julianna + Hanna

When I met this family the morning of our shoot, the girls were a little bit shy but enjoyed throwing rocks into the lake, and climbing around with their Mom and Dad.

At the end of our session, both girls hugged me multiple times and asked me not to go.

Parents often stress about their kids cooperating during a session, but I always assure them that it will be okay. All kids find it a little bit weird to have someone following their family around with a camera, but it never takes very long for them to forget that I'm a stranger and I get to capture their true happiness.

My biggest advice to parents would be not to worry about what the kids are doing and to just enjoy your time together and they'll warm up too.

The Jackson Family

A few years ago Brenda and Peter celebrated a milestone wedding anniversary - 40 years! Their daughter-in-law Alex and son Andrew had wanted to plan a family photoshoot for them as a gift, but because they had a baby on the way, decided to wait until he arrived.

I was fortunate enough to be the one to capture this funny, loving and gorgeous family a few weeks ago. I'm certain everyone would agree that it was worth the wait, as the photoshoot was made even more special by having Carter there. He is the first grandchild and nephew and the love for him was so evident.
